Yoga Mela Room!

9:00am EDT

Opening Ceremonies: Mahan Gong Immersion, Setting Intentions & Dr. Amita Chopra
Limited Capacity seats available

There are few instruments like the gong that can heal us through its purification properties of sound vibration that merge with the universal sound of the naad: the vibrational harmony through which the infinite can be experienced.  By simply laying in the receptive posture of savasana, and listening to the gong, one can receive personal teachings of Shabd Guru, which is the teaching from sound that cuts away the ego which obstructs the truth from you.

Experience gongs of different sizes and shapes, and of different vibrational frequencies creating transformational healing that will be with you throughout the day.  Through this practice, we will begin as many beings coming together as ONE to live in the flow of love and peace.

 Setting intentions.
Feeling this sense of abiding peace and love, you will then be guided to consciously project and intend your peace!

After the intentions are set... we will receive some brief moments of inspiration from people who are actively working on creating the world they want to see...

It starts with "ME".
We begin with Nancy Mellor who represents the courage and dedication of each one of us as individuals who are actively, moment by moment, seeking inner peace.  Nancy has been living with the serious affects of lyme disease for over 30 years. Most recently, turning to yoga has brought some precious relief and hope. Despite her daily struggle, Nancy holds a loving space for others that is truly remarkable!

"ME" leads to "WE"
We then hear from Christopher Hussey, who represents our vision and power to effect change in the world. Chris received one of the peace and social justice scholarships from the NH Yoga for Peace scholarships. Fueled by compassion, organizational and mobilization skills, boundless energy and charism, Chris is a college student and leader with a great vision for a better world!

 "We" leads to "UNITY"
Finally, we will hear from our Presiding Yogi, the esteemed Dr. Amita Chopra. She represents the Shakti principle... the will and force of all of the mothers and grandmothers, the divine feminine cosmic energies that move, shake and make the bridge from seed to creation!  She will share her perspectives on peace as a mother, grandmother, meditation practitioner of over 30 years, meditation instructor, instructor at Harvard Medical School and as a pediatrician in Boston's top hospitals.

Welcome to the 2014 NH Yoga for Peace

FEATURING

Bollywood dances to Ganesh Vandana, Jai Ho!, and Dhol from 10-10:30 a.m.
and
Kathak from 10:30-11:00 a.m.

Bollywood Dance Academy, A Bollywood Dance school in New England area with branches in NH and MA . BDA students will be presenting a vibrant dance performance by opening the  show, choreographed by Nikita Rao on Lord Ganesh. Ganesh is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies followed by Raas Garba ,  a form of dance that originated in the state of Gujarat in India. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term Garbha ("womb") and Deep ("a small
earthenware lamp"). Many traditional garbas are performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of the Goddess Shakti and towards the end of the performance the kids will perform of Jai ho which means  "Let there be victory"!

The Kathak dance piece that will be performed is a "Tarana on Raag Asavari and Kalavati". A Tarana is a musical genre which was created in the 13th century and later became an important part of Kathak dance. In this piece, performed on the Raag Asavari and Kalavati, dancers will try to bring out the essence of melody and rhythm through complex footwork and rapid turns. The dance will culminate with its dedication to the "Mother India" (In Indian culture, often, the land or the country is referred to as a form of Mother).

how Yoga can save Mother Earth
Limited Capacity seats available

The solution to our planet's most pressing issues are very simple.

Built into the eight limbed path of Yoga is an antidote to the unsustainable consumption that is destroying our Mother Earth’s ability to support life.

There’s a growing wave of people who care, people of the heart, and there are enough practicing Yogis to bring this growing-shift to the tipping point, where compassion is the norm, and where it’s cool to be kind. All we have to do, is relax into who we really are.

The foundational practice of Ahimsa is a joyful embracing of the interconnectedness of all beings, and through it, we can cultivate a heart-centered culture that displaces the current status quo of profit and greed ruling over all.  All we have to do is embrace the whole of Yoga.

Join us, and learn how to embody what Ghandi pleaded: Be the change you'd like to see in the world.

FEATURING:
Mohiniyattam from 11:00 to 11:20 a.m. AND  Kathak with live classical song accompaniment from 11:30a-noon!

Mohiniyattam, also spelled Mohiniattam  is a traditional South Indian dance from Kerala, developed by the Tamil nattuvanar (dance master) Vadivelu, one of the Thanjavur Quartet. It is a feminine dance form. The term Mohiniattam comes from the words "Mohini" meaning a woman who enchants onlookers and "aattam" meaning graceful and sensuous body movements. The word "Mohiniattam" literally means "dance of the enchantress". This dance which has influences and elements from two South Indian dance forms, the Bharatanatyam and Kathakali, was formulated in the court of King Swati Tirunal by Vadivelu. Here the movements of the dancer’s body could be compared to the gently undulating palm fronds filling up the Kerala skyline. There is a lot of heaving of the chest and swaying movements like the coconut palms. The gait and the stepping are reminiscent of a boat bobbing up and down in the gently soaring back waters of the kerala landscape, the land of Mohiniattam.

Kundalini Tantra Chakra Sadhana
Limited Capacity seats available

The true goal of Yoga is world peace. If there is to be peace in our world there must first be peace within us. If we are going to affect the world we will need to have our own house in order before we proceed. We can learn to tap into the power of will and determination and find the time, energy, wisdom and resources to accomplish whatever we wish. As accomplished Yogis we begin by cultivating clarity, compassion and a sense of gladness. This introduction to Kundalini Tantra Chakra Sadhana using asana, visualization, breath control, bija mantras, and bandhas prepares us for Bhuta Shuddhi or Chakra Purification.

Participants will learn to hold and balance emotions often considered dualistic:  neediness and acceptance; pride and humility; poverty mentality and contentment; perfectionism and acceptance of things as they are.

FEATURING:

Odissi is an ancient, breathtakingly beautiful form of Indian dance, originally performed in temples
as a worship ritual. Highly stylized in nature, it utilizes energetic footwork with graceful postures and movements to create an illusion of sculptures coming to life.

For ages this dance tradition was kept alive by the devadasis or temple dancers who performed the dance as a part of the daily temple worship rituals, as an offering, for the pleasure of the Lord.

Later the Devadasi system was abolished and the dance was preserved by the Gotipuas.  Where the dance was performed by young village boys dressed as girls.  The current form of Odissi is the product of a 20th century revival by eminent Gurus, scholars and dancers. Over the past several decades Odissi as a sacred style of dance has gained acceptance and been acclaimed by dance connoisseurs worldwide.  Presently this dance is performed internationally by dancers of all nationalities, race and religion. Today the stage becomes the temple and the dancers become the worshipers of the Supreme Creator.

Yin Yoga
Limited Capacity seats available

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine as well as the energetic channels of the meridians, nerve and blood system. We practice each pose in stillness for about 3-5 minutes, giving muscles ample time to relax so that we can focus on stretching and strengthening ligaments, bones and joints, which are not exercised very much in a more active style of yoga. There is also a meditative component to this class, with an approach to mindful awareness.
